THE ARCHITECT
Jason Rutchauskas
Founder, The Capital Roots Academy

Jason is a veteran elementary science educator with more than two decades of experience working with children in hands-on STEM learning environments. Throughout his career, he has focused on creating engaging, systems-based learning experiences that encourage curiosity, problem-solving, creativity, resilience, and teamwork.

A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt, Jason has spent many years training and teaching with a strong emphasis on self-defense, leverage, discipline, adaptability, and personal growth. His approach to instruction combines technical learning with mentorship, confidence-building, and collaborative problem-solving for participants ranging from complete beginners to experienced martial artists.

THE ARCHITECT OF THE SYSTEM

Jason created The Capital Roots Academy as a fusion of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and STEM education built around the shared principles of leverage, structure, strategy, mechanics, adaptation, and problem-solving under pressure.

By blending engineering concepts, movement, design challenges, and systems thinking with the philosophy of Jiu-Jitsu, The Capital Roots Academy aims to create meaningful educational experiences that help participants build confidence, think critically, communicate effectively, and develop real-world skills both on and off the mat.

The Capital Roots Academy programs are intentionally kept small to preserve instructional quality, participant safety, and meaningful engagement. Limited enrollment allows for direct coaching, individualized feedback, collaborative problem-solving, and a more immersive educational experience than traditional large-group programs.

Jason lives in Northern Virginia with his wife and three children. As both an educator and martial artist, he created The Capital Roots Academy to combine the problem-solving mindset of STEM with the confidence, discipline, and resilience developed through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
